The United Nation declared 2010 to be the
International Year of Biodiversity. It is celebration of
life on earth and its value for our lives. The world is
invited to take action to safe guard the variety of life
on Earth. Likewise, Shah Latif University Botanical
Garden & Herbarium was upgraded as Centre
for Biodiversity & Conservation on 2nd
February 2010.
The Director of CBC, Dr. Raza Bhatti
nominated as a Focal Person for IYB celebrations by
Higher Education Commission to the Ministry of
Environment, Government of Pakistan. This task includes
mobilizing and organizing various types of celebrations
for IYB 2010 in all the universities of Pakistan.
Hence, CBC has become one of the partners for
International Year of Biodiversity, Convention on
Biological Diversity, the United Nation Environment

The different ecological zones of
biosphere as well as habitat pose challenges to the
environmentalists, social scientists, engineers and
policy makers to understand the prevailing phenomenon,
formulate tactics and strategies in order to minimize
the threats to living being on earth.
CBC provides forum for all to assess and
share their modus operands for the compatibility of
living beings with potential challenges of
urbanization, destruction of habitat, over population,
pollution, climate change, global warming, over
exploitation and depletion of natural resources.
