The United
Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2010, International Year of
Biodiversity. The celebration of 2010 as International Year of
Biodiversity gives an opportunity & confidence, people to DISCOVER
the biodiversity that surrounds us, to REALISE its value, our
connection to it and the consequences of its loss and to ACT to
save it.
In decision
VI/26, the Conference of the Parties (COP) adopted the Strategic Plan
for the CBD. In the Plan's mission statement, Parties committed
themselves to a more effective and coherent implementation of the three
targets of the Convention, to achieve by 2010 a significant reduction of
the current rate of biodiversity loss at the global, regional and
national level as a contribution to poverty alleviation and to the
benefit of all life on Earth.
Goals of
International Year of Biodiversity 2010 are to,
1. Promote
new and inventive ways to safeguard biodiversity
2. Encourage
people to take immediate steps to reduce the rate of loss of
biodiversity.
3. Initiate
dialogue on steps for the post- 2010 period

Environment Day 2010 and many more to organize.
